The week of speed continued last night at the Beaufort Criterium in downtown Beaufort, South Carolina. The field has dwindled down a bit since Athens due to crashed out injuries and a few women heading off to Gila NM for the tour there but it was still fast and aggressive. Us kittens were down to two riders last night, with Erika still recovering from her Athens injuries, we could not be as active as we would have like to have been but still made the best of it
Colavita, Vera Bradley Foundation and Team Type One have been battling it out here making in tough for primes and podium finishes. Starla got the VK name out there sprinting for a prime and continuing on to get in a break with Colavita Rider and tibco for 3 laps. The race had some interesting dynamics with the pack shattering at 40 laps to go. Some riders were lapped, some dropped out. Rushlee Buchanan (Colavita/Baci) put in the perfect attack to solo for the win. Meanwhile the pack was battling it out for 2nd and 3rd. There was another break off the front at 12 to go with about 10 riders that look like it would stick but by 3 laps to go it was all together, with Rushlee still off the front. Starla flatted out at 2 to go and went to wheel change and chase but the cheif ref, Joan, would not let her back in. Me, I sprinted for 20th.
Tonight Walterboro!
